Spokesperson: Paulo Neves, Chartering Manager, Norvic Shipping

In the last couple of years, Norvic Shipping has undergone significant expansion, establishing a strong presence with offices in key locations across the globe. Today, we’re shedding light on our office in Rio. The operation is led by our experienced Chartering Manager, Paulo Neves, who shares his insights on Norvic’s journey in Brazil.

In the constantly evolving world of dry bulk shipping, success often hinges on more than just numbers and logistics. It’s about understanding the nuances of the market, building strong relationships, and understanding what’s sometimes necessary outside of standard charterparty agreements to meet clients’ needs. Over the past two years, Norvic Shipping has exemplified these principles with the addition of our Rio office. The operation is steadily evolving, reflecting on Norvic’s dedication to unlocking market potential and fostering a dynamic team.

Our approach is rooted in experience, networks and empathy. These core principles guide our interactions with clients. In terms of my own capabilities to lead the team here, having nine years’ of experience on Vale’s chartering desk, provides genuine empathy and insight for what our clients’ need and the challenges they face. This customer-centric perspective is crucial to the team we’re building here, as we understand that requirements are rarely black and white.

We are optimistic about the potential for growth in Brazil. At the outset, it was just me, working remotely from home. However, the demand from Brazil’s bulk cargo market was evident, which led us to open a dedicated office in Rio last year. This move underscored our commitment to serving our clients within the region to help build long-lasting relationships and provide excellent customer satisfaction.

Our strategic location, just a few minutes’ drive miles from the international airport, facilitates seamless interaction with clients. The office has also given us the space to grow our team. We recently hired an operations expert to support the business, and we’re actively seeking a chartering manager to join me in driving further expansion in the region.

Here in Rio, our focus lies in the coastal shipping sector, where we excel in handling cargoes like wheat, steel, and sugar through our Handysize business. Additionally, we manage outbound coal, iron ore and wheat shipments on Panamax vessels, leveraging our strong network and industry expertise.

Looking ahead, our goal is to continue growing our team and enhancing our service offerings, with the commitment of adhering to Norvic’s brand proposition to focus on making business simple and straightforward. We’re passionate about the opportunities Brazil’s shipping market presents, and we’re eager to capitalise on them, stay tuned for more updates on our Rio office!
